A wonderful winter motive, which brings joy and cosiness into your living room not only at Christmas time, decorates this wood-colored pyramid body. It tells a story from the home of the Erzgebirge folk art from the former life of the wooden toy makers, traders and their children. The lower floor depicts the typical and distinctive houses as they can still be admired in the open-air museum. The largest of the houses is the water-powered tire-twisting plant, where many forms of animals are created by means of the worldwide unique technique of tire-twisting. The next house is a poorhouse, where after the recession of the mining industry countless families lived in cramped conditions and under the most primitive conditions. The smallest hut on this floor is a typical miner's house. The richness of detail in these replicas even takes into account the so-called cantilever, the outside outhouse. The middle floor allows a further insight into the life of our ancestors. Here we can see the wooden toy maker using a sledge to fetch wood from the huge forests of the Erzgebirge mountains as firewood and raw material for his figurative works of art. The gingerbread woman with the carrying basket moves along the salt road, once a trade route to Bohemia, and sells her delicious nibbles made from local ingredients in winter. Another wooden toy maker makes his way to Dresden's Striezelmarkt, heavily laden with his pannier full of wooden works of art.
